By having your dog or cat sterilized, you will do your part to prevent the birth of unwanted puppies and kittens. Spaying and neutering also helps protect against some serious health problems, and may reduce many of the behavioral problems associated with the mating instinct.
Our age requirements are a minimum of 12 weeks of age and otherwise healthy!
For our feline friends the American Association of Feline Practitioners recommends spaying and neutering cats around 5 months of age. For more information, please visit our resources tab.
With dogs unfortunately the recommendation is a bit more individualized. Recent studies have been published for 35 different breeds recommending the best time to spay or neuter based on risks for orthopedic disease and cancer. If your dog’s breed is not listed on that chart, AAHA has created an easy to follow flow chart with some general recommendations.
Our goal is to provide you with the most current industry recommendation to assist you in making the best decision for your pet and your family.
If you need further help deciding the best time to spay or neuter your pet, we recommend you schedule a consult with your full-service veterinarian who will be assisting you with your pet’s long term health and well-being.
